Furneaux Maritime History Association Inc.

What to find here

  • The Furneaux Maritime History Association had its beginnings with the acquisition of the figurehead from the iron barque Farsund. Read more here.

  • What we want to build … [We will update this page in the near future] Our priorities are currently with the Lady Jillian Project.

  • Our partner organisation. Similar people but with different objectives. The Lady Jillian Association was formed to negotiate the acquisition and recovery of the Lady Jillian. The Lady Jillian Association is managing the recovery and restoration for the FMHA. More information about the LJA is here.

  • For thirty year the Auxiliary Ketch Lady Jillian (formerly the South Australian schooner Jillian Crouch) was a lifeline for the Furneaux Isles. Today she sits in the mud, at Launceston, Tasmania. We plan to bring her home. Follow our journey here.

  • The Lady Jillian newsletter is produced by the Digital Museum for the Lady Jillian Association. The newsletter is emailed to LJA members, contributors and supporters to keep them up to date with our progress. We store our back issues here.

  • Even when our Centre is built, visitors will still not be able to view our entire collection.. Our solution is to build a parallel digital museum so that visitors can take it away with them. [More to follow when resources allow]

  • The ‘Friends of the Furneaux Isles’ is a coming together of our associations working with Flinders Council and the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service to preserve and protect our beautiful natural environment. We are embarking on a project to remove man-made flotsam from our shores and litter from our tracks and bush-lands. Read more about it here.

  • This is our regenerative tourism project, designed to welcome and invite visitors to help us remove man-made waste from our beaches and bush. We have designed some collection bags to sell to visitors who share our goals. Read more about the Clean Seas and Tiny Tracks initiative here.
